Aaron's Thoughts
Probably the biggest surprise for me of 2024 so far. I hadn’t completely written it off prior to seeing it, I just had my fair share of skepticism.
Jumping from making Pig to the third “A Quiet Place” film reeked of Michael Sarnoski simply taking a paycheck job. Would have been totally understandable, but disappointing given how special “Pig” was.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Sarnoski takes the same formula that makes “Pig” work and applies it to a summer blockbuster. An extremely bold move that will likely ruffle feathers, which makes me like the swing even more.
To infuse a blockbuster with this much personality & humanity is quite a feat. In fact, it may be one of the most impressive things a filmmaker can do. Alfonso Cuarón doing this with Prisoner of Azkaban & Denis Villeneuve doing it with Dune are what first come to mind. But the list of people to pull it off really isn’t that long after them.
Somehow I’m even more excited now for “ The Death of Robin Hood”
