Aaron's Thoughts
Didn’t expect to like this near as much as I did. So much to sit with after the film, but what I can’t shake is how watching Mason’s life play out on screen is the same internal exercise we will all go through later in life when we reflect back on our life.
There were millions of minutes that made up Mason’s life that we didn’t see all of on screen. Yet inside all of those years that make up a life are a small set of moments and experiences that dominate our memory or shape us into who we are. Some may be moments you would expect (like graduating from high school or your first heartbreak) while others may be unexpected (like a solo camping trip with your dad). Some may be happy (like finding your passion) and some may be sad (like dealing with a terrible step parent). Each one is pivotal.
Most people may think this whole film is gimmicky, but it’s the same experience that we will have later in life as we look back on our life - a collection of moments, some good some bad some big some small. And when we get to that point we may just wonder why there wasn’t more. At that point, there will have been millions more moments in our life, but only few will be lasting memories. We don’t know when the lasting and important ones will come, so all we can do is focus on living in the present.
Much more to explore in this one, but will save that for a rewatch!
