Aaron's Thoughts
What a fun surprise this was! Taron Egerton gives a hilarious performance in this demented takedown of modern dating & the performative male.
The film has an energy you can feel from the opening moments that pairs nicely with Schey’s slick screenplay. Did not expect it to be anywhere near as dark and twisted as it was, but the film is better for it. Also doesn’t hurt that the Before trilogy serves as a key element to the story (an easy way to my heart).
It stumbles a little bit coming down the stretch, but still finds a way to land the plane in a satisfying way.
Kind of hilarious to watch this in the same year that Netflix put out “Ladies First”. Both exploring adjacent themes and the result could not be more different. Kind of a bummer that this one probably won’t be seen by as many as the slop version was!
