One day I will finally click with a Christopher Nolan movie that everyone else sees as a masterpiece, but apparently that day is not today!

Some of the most jaw dropping images you will see in a film surrounded by characters that feel more like plot devices than an actual people. It’s kind of weird how it’s both overwritten in the dialogue dumping exposition that makes me want to puke yet underwritten in how so many characters are brought to life.

Believe it or not, that’s not even the most glaring contradiction in Christopher Nolan’s work! The big one is how he constantly asks soooo much of his audience to understand his puzzle box approach to science fiction (this, Inception, Tenant, etc.). He doesn’t make it easy to piece together what is happening science wise or time wise. Nor does he hold your hand in the moments where it is toughest to grasp. Yet, he takes a complete 180 degree approach when it comes to the themes and emotional core of his films. He spells everything out to the point where a kindergartener could understand what he’s trying to say. Thanks for really spelling out everything you were trying to say about love in this film, Chris! Never would have figured it out without your dialogue dumping script!

It’s just bizarre to me how he doesn’t treat those things similarly throughout the filmmaking process. But then again he is the Nolan making movies and I’m the Nolan sitting here and writing this!
