Aaron's Thoughts
I look forward to rewatching this when it’s not my sixth movie in 30 hours, but for now I will just say that I am in absolute awe of what Los Javis’ did here.
Maximalist filmmaking at its best mixed with the heart & soul of an indie. All somehow done on a modest budget.
And as impressive as the direction and vision is, it may be an even more impressive example of brilliant adaptation. I had no idea that the inspiration point for the film was the actual unfinished work by Federico García Lorca until hearing Los Javis’ talk about it in the Q&A after the film. Them turning those 4 pages into what they did is utterly remarkable.
Using the word monumental to describe something like this is cliche and way overused, but it feels spot on here. Another word that feels apt is undeniable. And that’s the kind of film it’s going to take if Netflix is ever going to finally win Best Picture.
