Aaron's Thoughts
It makes me giddy to think about how wild it is that one of my favorite actors (Hugh Jackman) stars alongside two of my favorite actresses (Anne Hathaway & Amanda Seyfried) & two of my favorite singers (Aaron Tveit & Samantha Barks) in one of my favorite musicals of all time! Like how wild is that? And it’s so funny how all the poor filmmaking choices just don’t really bother me at all because I’m entranced by its magic. Heck, not even the abysmal Russell Crowe casting can’t take away my joy!
While I don’t love that they messed with the order of the songs, the run of “In My Life” -> “A Heart Full of Love” -> “On My Own” -> “One Day More” -> “Do You Hear The People Sing” is a 30 minute stretch where I just levitate out of my chair. Nothing like it, even if the film is clearly flawed. Part of me hopes someone else takes a crack at it, but another part of me will always love this clunky film with some of my all time faves!
