Much preferred this to the original largely due to the buddy comedy element between Affleck & Bernthal. It almost makes you forget it’s an action movie at times, which is nice when the action makes no sense.
Seriously though, what on earth was the point of that story? Why was Simmons & then the brothers so invested in this random kid? I’m all for breaking up human trafficking rings but that was just the end goal here? A random kid was wronged so they are risking everything for him? And if Affleck knew he was special needs, why not show us how he knew that? The stakes just felt WAY off & unnecessarily convoluted.
The comedy & chemistry between Affleck & Bernthal make you laugh off the dumb plotting, but it’s noticeable enough to keep it from being anything more than mediocre.
