Aaron's Thoughts
No nuance or subtlety found within a 150 mile radius of this one! The script goes to great lengths to make sure that every character explains their motivations in what felt like 10 monologues each. And everyone is such an extreme version of their one note attribute that they seem more like caricatures than real people. The antagonist is so laughably evil that they it doesn’t make for an interesting story at all. Not sure if you can chalk that one up to a young filmmaker figuring it out on the fly or just simply not trusting the cast, but the film really suffers for it.
Outside of one dinner scene that blew me away (thanks to Jason Isaacs & Gillian Anderson), something was off about this one from the get go. Part of that is the world never feeling believable or fully built out. Part of it is due to a filmmaker more interested in handholding than they ever are telling an actual complicated story.
