Aaron's Thoughts

The moment I heard that Wicked was being split into two films, my first thought was, “Why on earth would you draw attention to how bad the second half of the stage show is”.

Yet, I remained hopeful that they would use the opportunity to right some of the wrongs of the second act of the show (or at least try).

Instead of trying to fix it or give it more depth, they added an hour of nonsense to something that already felt like a slog at 55 minutes.

You may be thinking that “nonsense” is a bit harsh to describe what was added. But here are some things that were added (without spoiling anything):

- Characters say “give me a clock tick” or “I’ll be back in a clock tick” what feels like a 1,000 times.  - We get an opening that feels like they want to have Elphaba be an Avenger - Stupid slap fight - Elphaba in lingerie

I also think it’s funny how so few people are talking about how poor the politics of Wicked are. The themes of the first film/act are handled so poorly in the second act that any “lesson” or “takeaway” becomes laughable.

As much as I hate it, I hope it makes three billion dollars so that studios will green lit more musical film adaptations. Just hopefully good musicals this time :)
