I have nothing more than a surface level understanding of the themes explored in the Wuthering Heights novel, yet I somehow still seem get to it more than Emerald Fennell? She wants it to be this great romance, when that’s not what Wuthering Heights is at all & why this “adaptation” makes no sense. Does she know that she could have just adapted Romeo and Juliet? Or another great romance? Or just come up with something original?
She will forever be one of the most frustrating working directors for me because it’s so clear that she has talent but seems to squander it with some really baffling choices at the script level every time. I’d be curious to see her direct someone else’s material & take a break from script writing for a bit.
