Sense and Sensibility
★★★½·1995·Watched October 16, 2026·136 min

Always been more of a Little Women guy over all of Austen’s works, but there is something so undeniable about how this adaptation is brought to life on the big screen. The restraint in Emma Thompson’s performance for so much of the film is staggering and then the few moments that flips are absolute dynamite.

Very rarely do you get another adaptation of a beloved story that feels as justified as this one does. It doesn’t try to recreate the moments that makes the 1995 film special or even cling too much to the original source text, but instead it finds its own way to make you fall in love with the story.

A movie going experience I will never forget as long as I live. We are so lucky to be alive at the same time as Nathan Fielder!

I obviously wasn’t expecting this to match the magic of the original film, but I was at least hoping it would be decent… With no Fincher and no Eisenberg this shouldn’t have even been attempted.

I wish that I had known this was just an extremely poor remake of “High and Low” before I started watching it.

Minor annoyance in the grand scheme of how truly terrible this is, but I kept waiting for the film to explain why the daughter called the Jay Duplass character “Daddo” instead of Dad or Daddy, but it never does? Am I going crazy? Is that a common thing for people to call their dad???

There is a small moment about 30 minutes into this film that is a perfect encapsulation of “show don’t tell” and why there is no other art form quite like film.

I hope that Colleen Hoover donates her brain to science because we’ve got to study what’s going on up there.

Oddly has a lot in common with Fjord in the way that it intentionally prods and provokes which makes watching the film quite unpleasant at times.

This getting made into a movie is by far one of the most fascinating & hilarious stories of the year. And it gets even funnier when you realize who is cast in the movie!

★★★·2026·September 28, 2026

I was initially really bumping against Roher centering himself so much in the film (probably my number one doc pet peeve is when directors do this) but the approach won me over and actually made sense for the project by the end. It’s pretty corny at times, but also a good distillation of where we are with the technology and what could come both good and bad.

I found that the documentary “Predators” from 2025 interrogates Chris Hansen and the show as a whole in a much more interesting & successful way than this does.

This has to be one of the best directed movies of all time, right?!? I think I gasped like 15 times simply from some of the blocking, camera movements, and creative choices.
