Aaron's Thoughts
I am by no means a horror aficionado, so I never in a million years expected to love this so much.
Of course there is the haunting imagery throughout, but I was oddly taken aback by how comforting parts of it felt? That may be a weird way to describe it, but the whole thing felt like a high school sleepover where you are staying up late with your friends (mean that as a tremendous compliment). Sure it’s scary in parts, but never in a way that takes you out of the atmosphere it’s building & the characters you are rooting for.
I can’t think of many horror films that I immediately think, “I can’t wait to watch that again” once they end, but this is one. Gets back to that creepy yet cozy thing I was describing before. Feels exactly how a horror film should be if it were up to me.
Also love that themes that aren’t so subtle that you could easily miss them but aren’t so overbearing that you roll your eyes at them. A lot of modern horror films could learn a lesson or two from that.
