Aaron's Thoughts

When January rolls around, I almost immediately shift my mindset towards watching new releases from the new calendar year.

This year I decided to do something different.

Since most new releases in January are nothing but slop (hoping Bone Temple is the exception this year), I decided to spend this time catching up on some smaller titles from 2025 that I otherwise would have completely missed.

Beyond glad that I made this choice because of films like “Or Something”. A micro budget indie film that has its eyes set on being a modern version of Before Sunrise or When Harry Met Sally. It wears its influences very clearly on its sleeve (maybe too much honestly) but you can see a lot of promise here; both in the filmmaking and the performances. Would recommend it if, like me, you are a sucker for a walk and talks & love everything Kareem Rahma is doing with Subway Takes.

Movies that can look this good on such a low budget are so important in the movie ecosystem. Maybe the most important! They inspire the next generation to pick up a camera or to make the choice to shoot their film on a low budget. Big budget masterpieces are important to show what the medium can achieve, but small budget indies are important to show that filmmaking is achievable to anyone who wants to make a movie.

Long live indie filmmaking!
