Aaron's Thoughts

An excellent musical with two knockout performances that struggles to justify its existence as a feature length film.

About 20 minutes in there is a song performed between multiple characters on a computer scene that gave me chills. And that happened another two or three times throughout the film. Problem is, almost every great moment in the film comes when Comer and Melling are belting their hearts out. Every other moment is spent waiting for the next song.

The film struggles with poor pacing (especially in the first act) but it struggles even more to build out the characters and world beyond the fun premise. It’s a common pitfall for shorts turned into features & so it’s not much a surprise that Stuffed falls into the same trap. Normally that would cause me to write off the film, but the original songs are so excellent & Melling/Comer are so committed to their performances that I’m not only glad it exists, but look forward to watching it again.

Then again, how could I not be in the bag for a musical so clearly inspired by Sweeney Todd?
