Aaron's Thoughts

Visually bland and thematically feels pretty pointless compared to the original.

War of the Roses served as a cautionary tale, but I am a bit confused on what exactly the goal or message is here? It kind of feels like there isn’t one. It’s just showcasing marital resentment for the heck of it. And for 90% of the run time it is pretty dull in how it does that.

I did enjoy the dinner table scene. I think it shows that had they just dialed up the nastiness by a factor of 100 it would have at least been entertaining. Instead, it just decides to dampen the material so that it could appeal to more mainstream audiences (at least I think that was the goal). But in doing that, it loses most of its effectiveness.

Colman & Cumberbatch are good delivering McNamara‘s dialogue, but you never once feel like they were ever in love. There is an underlying passion between Douglas & Turner in the original that helps fuel their resentment. That is nonexistent with Colman & Cumberbatch.
