Aaron's Thoughts
While I’ve got some frustration with how much of the inciting incident is depicted on screen, there is no denying how powerful everything else is. A masterful screenplay supported by career best work from Channing Tatum & Gemma Chan.
Haunting is the only descriptor to best summarize what the film does to you. Some of the filmmaking choices/devices used throughout are so effective that they send a shiver down your spine. The parents & their flaws feel so plucked from reality that it makes the whole film eerily captivating. Some genuine soul crushing moments throughout, but it’s so authentic & well crafted that it more than earns them.
My heart was in my throat for 90% of the runtime, so I can’t even imagine watching this as a parent.
